For our Family Fun Night we decided to end the evening by completing "dangerous" item number 34. We all really enjoyed it. Myles got to use his new tools he got from Grandpa and Grandma Hendricks for Christmas.
My job was to hold the toaster and make guiding remarks if needed. Kim's job was to to take pictures and observe the kids and record their comments. Of course, the kids' job was the deconstruction of the toaster, as opposed to destruction, as pointed out in the book.
There was a lot of excitement when it first started coming apart. It was like Christmas, only more exciting because it was a real surprise. "WHOA!" is how the comments began.
Ethan, "This one's getting loose ... ooops."
Myles, "I get to do that one next ... whoa, that was cool."
Cedar, "One, two, three, four, ..." (counting loose screws)
Ethan, "There's words inside!!!" "Where's the circuit board?"
Cedar, "I like the screwdriver."
Ethan called Grandpa Harper on the phone to test him on the meaning of the colored rings on the resistors. We'll keep his grade confidential. We wouldn't want to embarass a retired electrical engineer. :-)
