The boys have hammered things together and even built a ladder together last year. Between then and now the boys have been given their own hand tools so they don't have to misplace mine. So, this activity wasn't anything new as much as it was good practice and a great related activity after a Family Home Evening, which our church asks us to have every Monday night - not to be confused with our own creation of Family Fun Night on Friday nights, which is when we usually try and do a Dangerous Thing or whatever the kids think is fun, and eat homemade pizza. And not that we don't have fun during Family Home Evening, or try to between the chaos of having a family meeting with a spiritual focus with 3 young children. :-) Anyway, the lesson was about how an ancient prophet had to have a tower built so that more people could hear his message. We talked about other ancient stories the kids were familiar with where prophets had to build things, i.e. Noah. Then we thought we better practice a basic skill of building and drive some nails into wood. It was fun, yet not without incident. Myles smashed his fingers a few times and we were all reminded it's not a good idea to grab things out of someone else's hands. Doing so scraped Cedar's wrist with the fork? of the hammer. Ethan won the hammering race. Myles hammered two nails at once. They were impressed that I could drive the nail in with three hits.
